The Protège Pluie — literally "rain protector" — is a rain cover made by Hermès, for Hermès bags. It is one of the most practical objects the house has ever produced, and one of the least known.
What Exactly Is It?
The Protège Pluie is a lightweight, foldable cover that slips over a bag when the weather turns. Folded, it tucks discreetly inside the bag itself, taking up about as much room as a glasses case. Hermès makes them in numbered sizes, each shaped for particular bag models — which is exactly why finding the right number matters:

Which Protège Pluie size fits my bag?
The number is the guide. No.4 is cut for the Bolide 31 and 37; No.8 is cut for the Lindy. Hermès produced other numbers for other models, so if your bag is not one of these, look for the number matched to your specific model rather than assuming a close size will do.
Can I use a No.4 cover on a Lindy, or the other way around?
We would not recommend it. The covers are shaped to specific silhouettes — the wrong number will either not close properly or will sit loosely enough that rain gets in at the handles, which defeats the purpose.
Did the rain cover originally come with the bag?
In many cases yes, supplied alongside the dust bag and box. Because they are small and easy to set aside, they are frequently lost over the years, which is why so many owners end up shopping for a replacement.
How do you store and care for one?
Let it dry fully before folding it away — trapping moisture inside a bag is worse than the rain it protected against. Folded flat, it stores easily in an interior pocket, ready for the next unexpected shower.
